I've been a little behind on this film, having only caught the first film last night, but I have to admit that Underworld was not as bad as I had been led to believe. In fact, apart from a muddled script and a production design that borrowed Blade's rejects it was actually quite entertaining, especially with Sophia Myles (mmm) as one of the vampires.
However, I still didn't necessarily think it deserved a part two, but apparently the sequel was greenlit, and the first pictures of the film have now been released online.
The sequel to the $100 million worldwide hit, Underworld: Evolution continues the saga of war between the aristocratic Vampires and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). Underworld: Evolution traces the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes as Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael (Scott Speedman), the lycan hybrid, try to unlock the secrets of their bloodlines.
The fast-paced, modern-day tale of deadly action, ruthless intrigue and forbidden love takes them into the battle to end all wars as the immortals must finally face their retribution. The film was directed by Len Wiseman and co-stars Bill Nighy (I'm guessing there will be one or two flashback sequences in the movie), Shane Brolly (back as Lucian) Tony Curran and Derek Jacoby, although unfortunately no Sophia Myles. Damn! Underworld 2 has a US release date of December 2005.
