2005 BAFTA winners - as they happened

So a divided Orange British Academy Film Awards tonight, with honours spread over a variety of films. The Aviator flew to the top of the class with four awards, including the big one, Best Film and Supporting Actress for Cate Blanchett, but Vera Drake ran a close race with three BAFTAs, including a Best Director award for Mike Leigh and Best Actress for Imelda Staunton.
Other films to receive more than one award were The Motorcycle Diaries (best foreign film and music), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (editing and screenplay) and Ray (Best actor for Jamie Foxx and Best Sound).
Clive Owen secure a Best Supporting Actor award for Closer, the Orange Film of the Year Award (voted by the British public) went to Harry Potter 3 and My Summer of Love won the British Film of the Year award (unfortunately beating Shaun of the Dead).

Great moment, as Martin Scorsese takes to the stage on behalf of Ferreti who has worked with Scorsese on most of his last few films. Two out of three for The Aviator so far...

Michael Balcon Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema (presented by Angelica Houston)
This year, the award is going to a Script Supervisor - and the winner is;
Angela Allen (for films such as Murder on the Orient Express, The Dirty Dozen, The African Queen, The Man Who Would be King, The Misfits, Ronin)
It's always good to see someone who has been working solidly in the business for years receive recognition, especially for someone who has worked on so many classic films. A nice moment.
A moment to breathe with another films clip package. Expect the usual, Alfie, Closer, Bridget Jones, Vera Drake and other Brit contenders... (Yay! - Shaun of the Dead), Finding Neverland...

Well, awards spread out so far, so it's anyone's guess, but as it's the BAFTAs the sensible money has to be on Vera Drake, especially considering Mike Leigh and Imelda Staunton's success already tonight.. And the winner is;
The Aviator! Can't begrudge that one - great to see Scorsese, di Caprio et al on the stage. A worthy award winner.
