Nicholas Cage to star in the The Wicker Man remake
6th Mar 05
If it's not bad enough that Hollywood are actually going ahead with remaking this timeless British classic (what is with remakes these days? where are all the original ideas?), Variety have now reported that Nicholas Cage has been cast in the lead role.
Now we don't mean to have a go at Mr Cage (who has been fantastic in many roles), but, we mean, come on... Wicker Man remake? Nicholas Cage? Island off the coast of Maine? Oh dear..
Variety reports:
The film will be directed by Neil LaBute with Millennium Films, Equity Pictures and Emmett/Furla Films producing.
LaBute adapted the screenplay, in which a sheriff investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island off the coast of Maine. His hopes of unraveling the girl's disappearance become increasingly uncertain when he discovers evidence of pagan rituals.
Pic will begin production July 15 in Vancouver. Millennium acquired the remake rights from Canal Plus.
Avi Lerner, Randall Emmett and Joanne Sellers, along with Cage and his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly, will produce "Wicker Man."
