DVD release - wc 21st March 2005
21st Mar 05
Bubba Ho-Tep kicks off a cracking week for Region 2 DVD releases as it arrives in the UK in a stunning 2-disc DVD set with hundreds of mummy extras. Probably the cult movie of last year, and still the only film to receive three 5-star reviews at Zombie Club, this is a cracking film starring Bruce Campbell and the late Ossie Davis.
Tartan release another very impressive Korean film in the form of Save The Green Planet. This screwball comedy / drama / sci-fi / horror is a true original (read our review here) and well worth the effort hunting out. You can also enter our competition here to win one of three copies (ends April 3rd).
Impressive Brit thriller Dead Man's Shoes marks Shane Meadows' return to form and the Optimum DVD receives its retail release this week after two weeks of rental only, whilst Anchor Bay come up trumps again with a 5-disc box set of the works of Pete Walker, including such films as House of Whipcord and Frightmare – all packaged in a cool coffin-shaped presentation box.
Elsewhere, there an early Hideo Nakata release in the form of Chaos from Tartan, the 'classic' 80s schlock Witchboard and (probably best 'forgotten') The Forgotten starring Julianne Moore in a ridiculous plot about a missing son or something. Stick with Bubba.

Having built up and international reputation with Ring and Dark Water, Hideo Nakata’s psychological thriller Chaos tells of the kidnapping of a businessman’s wife but as the labyrinthine plot unravels, it becomes clear that things aren’t what they seem. There’s too much familiarity between the wife and her abductor and her husband doesn’t seem to be a totally innocent victim. So who’s playing games with who?
This single-disc release includes Nakata's TV series Curse, Death and Spirit (65mins) amongst the extras, which also include a 10-minute behind-the-scenes feature and numerous trailers. The main feature will be presented in anamorphic widescreen with DD5.1 & DTS 5.1 Surround audio, the TV Series is presented in Full Frame with Stereo sound.
