TCM remake director decides to go Subterranean

 With that chainsaw-weilding maniac remake under his belt, director Marcus Nispel is thinking about what kind of ugliness lurks underground. Nispel wandered into Beacon Pictures with an idea called Subterranean about some kind of strange and dangerous discovery beneath the city of New York (C.H.U.D anyone?). Variety hinted that the thing that's found may in fact be some kind of creature or creatures as the trade mentioned that Nispel's movie idea is science fiction in a similiar manner to ALIENS (it's a bug hunt everybody!)
Writing the screenplay is John Jarrell or Romeo Must Die fame. Beacon has a deal with Walt Disney Pictures so that studio has first-look at the concept, which is a bit weird for an upcoming horror project. Part of the contract also specifies that Beacon and Nispel will work together on a video game based on the concept, which goes to show that they're really thinking ahead with this one. Who knows, we could be looking at the next Ghoulies.

Nispel is currently lensing the new USA Network Frankenstein mini-series starring Parker Posey.
