Bloody vampires - six-disc Box of Blood
19th Jul 05
If you're a fan of fangs and all things vampirical, then you’d better mark August 22nd in your diary, because that’s the date that Anchor Bay UK release their bloodiest box set ever, gathering together five classic vampire movies; Near Dark, Nosferatu, Vampyres, Dracula and Vampires: Out for Blood.
This release is a strictly limited edition six-disc boxset, that includes some stunning packaging featuring a ‘blood pouch’ (nice - what with this and the rubber Evil Dead 2, you gotta love Anchor Bay's packaging) and an exclusive Vampire documentary that will only be available as part of this specially priced DVD collection.
The six-disc Box of Blood (18) will be released on DVD (£29.99) by Anchor Bay UK on 22nd August 2005. Special Features include widescreen presentations, Stereo 2.0 plus optional 5.1 and DTS audio, English subtitles for the hard of hearing, audio commentaries, "making of" and "behind-the-scenes" featurettes, trailers, biographies, filmographies, film notes and stills galleries.
Near Dark stars Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen in a violent, post-modern horror fable, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, concerning a family of bloodsuckers on the rampage across America's Deep South.
Werner Herzog's Nosferatu takes much of its visual inspiration from F.W. Murnau's classic 1922 film of the same name. Starring Klaus Kinski, Isabelle Adjani and Bruno Ganz, the film is simply one of the most sorrowful and beautiful vampire films ever made.
José Ramón Larraz's Vampyres stars Marianne Morris and former Playboy centrefold Anulka Dziubinska as a pair beautiful, bisexual female vampires who, by night, roam the English countryside posing as hitchhikers in order to lure unsuspecting men back to their remote country estate, where they have sex with their victims before feasting on their blood and killing them. Heavily censored for its original cinema release, the film is now presented uncut and uncensored, with all its notorious scenes of sex and violence fully restored.
Vampires: Out for Blood stars Lance Henriksen, Kevin Dillon, Vanessa Angel and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe and tells the tale of a troubled LAPD detective who stumbles across a coven of vampires flourishing amid the underground club scene of modern-day Los Angeles.
Dracula is a contemporary adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel, updated and set in modern-day Europe, and starring Patrick Bergin, Giancarlo Giannini and Stefania Rocca.
