Details of Anchor Bay's Box of the Banned 2 DVD boxset
12th Feb 06
After last year's release of the Box of the Banned DVD collection (yes, we've still got to review it yet) from Anchor Bay, we now have details of the follow-up, the imaginitavely titled Box of the Banend 2.
Following the same format, this boxset will feature five more of the most "shocking and notorious 'video nasties' ever to see the light of day", plus a bonus disc featuring the second part of David Gregory’s brand new documentary Ban the Sadist Videos.
Released on 13th March 2006 and priced at £24.99, this six-disc collection brings together Matt Cimber’s The Witch Whoe Came Fom the Sea, Dario Argento's Tenebre (recently featured in our Zombie Club Saxon-athon), Eric Weston’s Evilspeak, Lawrence D. Foldes’ Don't Go Near the Park and Luigi Cozzi’s Contamination.
More Information
The Witch Who Came From The Sea
Psychologically disturbed by the abuse she received as a child from her alcoholic father, Molly begins to indulge in morbid fantasies in which she casually picks up men from the Venice Beach area for drug-fuelled orgies that invariably end in bloody mutilation. But are these acts merely the invention of Molly’s damaged psyche… or are they real? Featuring superb cinematography by John Carpenter’s regular cinematographer Dean Cundey, Matt Cimber’s shocking film is a real cult classic from the video nasty era.
Tenebrae
Dario Argento’s self-proclaimed "gory rollercoaster... full of fast and furious murders" marked the director’s return to the 'giallo' (mystery-thriller) genre in which he first made his name. Banned on video in the UK until 1999, when it was released in a cut form, but now passed uncut and uncensored, Tenebrae is a superbly orchestrated and inventive suspense thriller packed with horrific scenes of graphic violence.
Evilspeak
A classic gorehound favourite from the early 1980s, and now fully restored to all its gory glory from newly discovered vault sources (including several long-rumoured but rarely seen sequences of graphic and bloody carnage), Evilspeak is a heart-ripping and head-splitting splatter classic; a tale of one nerdy teenage outcast’s demonic revenge on his tormentors at the military academy he has been force to attend since the death of his parents.
Don’t Go Near The Park
A cannibalistic gore-fest, Don’t Go Near The Park brings flesh-eating horror to modern-day Los Angeles as two 12,000-year-old members of an ancient tribe of superhumans seek to recapture the secret of eternal youth. Their only hope lies in the ritual sacrifice of a 16-year-old female virgin. But when an investigative reporter and a young runaway child discover their existence, the revelation leads to an unexplained and terrifying confrontation.
Contamination
The original gut-exploding Italian sci-fi splatter classic, the once heavily censored Contamination is now available uncut and uncensored. Director Luigi Cozzi’s over-the-top take on Alien-style infestation brings extraterrestrial terror to New York with grossly explosive results and, even today, remains a firm favourite with horror fans everywhere.
