With the first day of shooting looming large on George Romero's Land of the Dead (or GRLOTD as it shall now be known) the addition of four more cast members has just been announced.
Joining Dennis Hopper (and a rumoured, but unconfirmed Tom Savini) are Simon Law (Ring 2), John Leguizamo, Robert Joy (who worked with George previously on The Dark Half), and further embellishing the zobmie Romero / Argento collaboration, Asia Argento is also joining the band of soldiers trying to survive in a world overrun by the undead. Not a bad cast call we think, and when you add cameo appearances by Edgar Wright and Shaun Pegg, all we can say is "Bring it on George..!"
Filming is due to start in Toronto on October 11th this ear, ready for an October 2005 release. Universal have already picked up the international and domestic distribution rights, and there's every chance that two versions of the film will be released - an MPAA-friendly cut followed by a full-on gore-fest director's cut which will hopefully get a release on DVD.
GRLOTD features a plot whereby the zombies having taken over the world and those left alive are confined to a walled-in city that keeps out the corpse corps.
Anarchy rules the streets, with the wealthy insulated and living in fortified skyscrapers. The story revolves around a group of scavengers who must thwart an attempt to overthrow the city while the dead evolve from brainless slow-moving creatures into more advanced creatures.
