Shaun of the Dead wins a Saturn Award

 On May 3rd (yes, we're a little late on this news, but we've all been on holiday!) the winners of the 31st Annual Saturn Awards were announced.
Presented by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, The Saturn Awards, the Saturn Awards were founded in 1972 by Dr. Donald A. Reed to honor and recognize the achievements of genre entertainment.
The biggest news of the night for us was Shaun of the Dead which narrowly beat competition from Dawn of the Dead to take home the Best Horror Film prize (from a group of nominees that also including Blade: Trinity, The Grudge, Open Water, Saw and Van Helsing).
Blanchard Ryan recevied a Best Actress award for Open Water, Jake Garber, Matt Rose and Mike Elizalde won for Best Makeup on Hellboy and Alan Silvestri picked up a prize for Best Music for Van Helsing.
On the DVD side, Starship Troopers 2 was awarded Best DVD Release, while Anchor Bay’s 4-disc Dawn of the Dead (original Romero version) took the Best DVD Classic Film Release.
The biggest winner of the night was Spider-man 2, which took Best Fantasy Film, Best Director for Sam Raimi and three other honors.
