Carpenter in rumours for The Thing 2

 More rumour than news, as aintitcoolnews have reported (overheard) that John Carpenter is currently considering directing The Thing 2.
Maybe.
Carpenter has always claimed he would never do a sequel unless the story was top-rate, and The Thing was such a fantastically self-contained film (does it really need a sequel?) that any story pitched to further the franchise would have to really be something else.
It's all just rumours at the moment, but wouldn't it be great to see Carpenter return to the form of his previous work such as The Fog, Halloween and Escape From New York.
