The first trailer for Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator has appeared online, and it's looking great.
Admittedly it's only available in a medium Quicktime format at the moment, but it still shows off the period detail and sweeping camera moves synonymous with the master director of Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.
The Aviator tells the story of aviation pioneer Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio), the eccentric billionaire industrialist and Hollywood film mogul, famous for romancing some of the world's most beautiful women.
The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s though the 1940s, an epoch when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircraft he designed and created. A daredevil pilot, Hughes became a major force in commercial aviation. He was a mythic figure in the America of his day, imbued with an aura of excitement, glamour and mystery and romanced such Hollywood legends as Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale), Katherine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett), Betty Davis and Jean Harlow, among others.
The film has a huge cast list, including Alec Baldwin, Gwen Stefani, Danny Huston, John C Reilly, Jude Law, Willem Defoe, Alan Alda and Ian Holm.
The film is due to be released in the US in December. No word as to the official UK release as yet.
2nd Mar 05 This movie involves a lot of talking and a lot of walking around, opening doors, then walking a bit further, opening another door, then wiping off dirty hands, then perchance a glimpse of nudity with no follow-through.
